Auto-renewal clauses, explained in plain English

Two flavours dominate real contracts: evergreen (renews month-to-month or year-to-year forever until cancelled with notice) and fixed-term auto-renew (renews for another fixed term — usually equal to the original — unless you give notice).

Evergreen

Common in SaaS. Notice period is typically 30 days. Cancel anytime with 30 days' notice.

Fixed-term auto-renew

Common in insurance, telecoms, and enterprise SaaS. Miss the notice window and you're locked in for another full term — usually 12 months.
