How notice periods work in contracts (and why the renewal date isn't your deadline)

Most contracts don't let you cancel on the renewal date. They require you to give notice a fixed number of days beforehand — often 30, 60, or 90. Miss that window and you're locked in for another term.

The formula

Last day to cancel = renewal date − notice period. If your SaaS renews on 12 March 2027 with 60 days' notice, the last day to send notice is 11 January 2027.

Why this matters

Most reminder tools notify you on the renewal date. By then, the notice window is closed — you'll pay for another year whether you use the product or not.

What Kept does

Kept extracts the term and notice period from your contract PDF, computes the cancellation deadline, and reminds you at 60, 30, and 7 days before that deadline. Not the renewal date.

Never miss another deadline.
